  Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday's grandfather was one of 17 children of a black Virginia slave and a white Irish plantation owner. Her mother was only 13 when she was born. She first began singing in obscure Harlem nightclubs and then toured with Count Basie who brought the stage-frightened singer to her first studio session. Between 1933 and 1944, she recorded over 200 recordings. Despite a lack of technical training, Holiday's unique articulation, phrasing and intensity made her the outstanding jazz singer of her day and of our time. Holiday sings several songs from the Microhits catalog including, "Good Morning Heartache", "This Will Make You Laugh", "No Good Man", "Some Other Spring" and others.
